TEMPELHOF AIR BASE (TCA)

- The last 3 days of TCA-
On October 30, midnight, TCA got closed by political decision forever. While our mayor Mr. Wowereit has
invited 800 guests to a private 'good-bye' party inside of the main hall of TCA, Berlin's citizens had
to stay outside, were blocked off. Even the legendary Candy Bomber pilot, Col.(ret)Gail Halvorsen was
not invited. (newspaper info) Inside of that main hall or airport 'Haupthalle', was something going on
like a so-called 'Leichenschmaus', translated as 'Dead Body Meal'. Outside of the closed airport were
demonstrating several people but their peaceful actions were senseless. It was a dark day for free
Berlin & its history! Many former West-Berliners were frustrated of that strange treatment & the
carelessness of our current government. Tempelhof Airport (TCA) had existed 85 years & has not
deserved that sad end. Now TCA is sleeping like a giant, waiting for better times to come. The
maintenance of the huge 'dead' airport compound costs about 1 million of Euro every month. The new
airport BBI (Berlin-Brandenburg International) is not ready yet, nobody can tell for sure when it's
ready for use. A few minutes before midnight, the last 2 airplanes, the JU 52 & the Candy Bomber
(C47 or DC3) took off, side by side, towards airport Schoenefeld. Never they can return. At midnight all
lights were switched off! Following photos were taken by Andrea & myself.
