Berlin - Brigade my written memories |
After the American troops have left Berlin in Summer 1994, I have written 2 books about my experiences
with the Berlin Brigade. My whole life until that time I have shared with members of the legendary
Berlin Brigade. All American activities like military practice, parades, living, shopping etc. took
place in an 3 miles radius around of my home. The BB housing area and the Grunewald were infront my
door step.
My books were available in German & English language. My first book covered my childhood
experiences with the GIs, the 2nd one my common duty time together with members of the 287th
MP Company. Here I've narrated experiences when I had to patrol the Berlin Wall. It was like a mirror
of the so-called COLD WAR, years of our common contemporary history.
I never before have done such writing work but now, after all my books are gone and history , I'm happy
that I've done it. It was an highlight of my life and I know that I have given lots of joy to the
readers. The great feedbacks from friends, foreign people & Berlin veterans was amazing and a wonderful
profit for all my costs and efforts.
Here I like to share one of the nice feedbacks. It's written from the legendary Berlin Airlift
'Candy Bomber' Col. (ret) Gail Halvorsen. I had presented him as gift an copy of my book 'Border Patrol'.
Dear Reinhard,
thank you for that great package. The book is incredible. Don't know how I missed it before. It is so
well written! It should be in every school. The pictures help so much in telling the story. In this one
book you have a great account of what so many have already forgotten. I am glad to have it. It reminds
me of so many things I have forgotten already. People need to review it to remember. Thank you so much.
On page 106, "And nobody knew his name" is riveting. So well described. Grateful for it. When you
republish it put your personal history in it. I would like to know more!
Warm regards,
Gail
