Berlin Insignias
SHOULDER SLEEVE INSIGNIA (SSI)
United States Army Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, made of embroidered cloth "patches," are worn on the upper left uniform sleeve to identify the primary unit or command of a Soldier's permanent assignment. After 1966 "subdued" SSIs, which substituted black and olive green for more brilliant colors, were worn on field or combat uniforms. Each SSI displayed on this page was worn by U.S. Troops in Berlin between 1945 & 1994. If errors or omissions are found, please notify the Webmaster.
DISTINCTIVE UNIT INSIGNIA (DUI)
United States Army Distinctive Unit Insignia (often called "crests") are worn as small metal badges on uniforms shoulder loops, headgear, or as embroidered cloth "patches" on pockets of designated uniforms to identify a specific regiment, battle group, battalion or other subordinate unit of a Soldier's permanent assignment. Each DUI displayed on this page was worn by U.S. Troops in Berlin between 1945 & 1994. If errors or omissions are found, please notify the Webmaster.
Miscellaneous Insignias
-Regimental patches, unit pins, unofficial crests & patches worn by Berlin units-

This page displays insignia items which are not necessarily official or even authorized for wear on United States military uniforms. U.S. Forces in Berlin included a number of specialized and unique units whose Soldiers sometimes designed and manufactured their own logos which were displayed, unofficially, during the period between 1945 and 1994. If errors or omissions are found, please notify the webmaster
